Center for Translational and Experimental Cardiology (CTEC)

The Center for Translational and Experimental Cardiology (CTEC) was established to foster a wide basic and translational research program in cardiovascular disease (CVD).

The growing burden of CVD is due to a poor understanding of the underlying mechanisms and the factors triggering its development. The mission of CTEC is to support interdisciplinary research in basic, translational and clinical cardiovascular sciences, including heart failure, cardiomyopathies, cardiac arrhythmias, genetics, epigenetics and immunity, and to apply this knowledge to develop innovative therapies and approaches.

The CTEC goals are:

  • To create a forward-looking and collaborative environment where cardiovascular scientists and cardiologists can work together to achieve common goals in cardiovascular care;
  • To support basic and translational research that can be translated into therapies and improve patient care;
  • To disseminate knowledge by lectures, seminars, dedicated mentoring programmes in translational cardiology and other educational opportunities;
  • To foster multi-disciplinary research across labs and departments within the University of Zurich, as well as with outside institutions;
  • To assist investigators in developing a plan for translating research findings into effective cardiovascular therapies
