Cochrane Complementary Medicine Switzerland

Cochrane is an independent, global organization that collaborates to produce trusted synthesized evidence, make it accessible to all, and advocate for its use. Cochrane publications and other services are internationally recognized as the benchmark for high-quality information about the effectiveness of health care.

Our Institute hosts the only Satellite Group of Cochrane Complementary Medicine in Europe. Our aims are to contribute to systematic reviews on complementary and integrative medicine therapies and to promote an evidence-based approach to complementary and integrative medicine.

Our research focuses on non-pharmacological complex interventions in the field of complementary and integrative medicine. In particular, we investigate moderators of effects (characteristics of patients and therapists), the interaction of these characteristics and the influence of the treatment setting. We are especially interested in patient expectations, new treatment settings (e.g. digital health) and meta-epidemiological studies.

Our recent work includes procedures to increase transparency in research and replicability by developing reporting guidelines for non-pharmacological interventions. Also, the generalizability of digital health effectiveness studies to real world settings is evaluated in our research. Since mindfulness and acupuncture are important topics in primary studies at the Institute for Complementary and Integrative Medicine, we also evaluate these interventions in secondary analysis on different levels.

We are looking forward to your contact and appreciate collaborations worldwide.
