Stone treatment with ESWL

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a safe and efficient method for the treatment of kidney and ureteral stones that has been established worldwide since the 1980s and has been further developed since then.

One or more stones are targeted by ultrasound or X-ray and then broken into small fragments by use of electro-magnetic shock waves, which are focused on the stones from the outside through the skin and tissue. The smaller pieces can be excreted by the body with the urine in the following days and weeks.
