Liver Scintigraphy

Radiopharmaceuticals are used to observe and record metabolic processes in the liver.

Preparation & Precautions

No special measures required.

If you believe you are pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding, please bring this to our attention upon receipt of this information sheet.

Scintigraphy

The examination proper starts with an injection of the radioactive tracer needed for this examination.
This tracer accumulates in the liver and based on the images, we can calculate, what fraction each part of the liver contributes to total liver function. The whole procedure will take 90 minutes.

Side effects

No side effects are to be expected. Please inform us if you suffer from any allergies.
The radiation dose of the examination is comparable to one to two times the natural yearly radiation dose in Zurich. The examination can also be performed in children.
