Identification of antibodies in autoimmune hormonal diseases for the therapy of endocrine tumors

With this project, we want to create the conditions for new therapies for patients with endocrine tumors. The starting point for such therapeutic approaches are antibodies from patients with endocrine autoimmune diseases, which can be isolated from a blood sample and later synthesized. The long-term goal of this study is to use the properties of these antibodies for cell-based immunotherapies against endocrine tumors and to test their clinical applicability.

Aim of the study

In a current project, we are planning to develop immunological therapies against endocrine tumors based on the mechanisms of endocrine autoimmune diseases. We believe that this will enable us to develop both effective and safe therapies for affected patients, starting with antibodies from patients with endocrine autoimmune diseases that can be isolated from a blood sample and later synthesized. The long-term goal of this study is to use the properties of these antibodies for cell-based immunotherapies against endocrine tumors and to test their clinical applicability.

Who can take part?

Any adult with an endocrine autoimmune disease that has occurred either spontaneously or as a result of immunotherapy.

Procedure

All participants are first asked about their state of health and medical history. Information on the onset and development of the autoimmune disease, the need for hormone replacement therapy and the presence of other concomitant diseases is particularly important for the study. The participants also undergo a physical examination. Additional blood samples will then be taken as part of the scheduled blood test. This appointment is carried out as part of a routine examination in the outpatient clinic, and if the blood tests reveal indications of the presence of antibodies that could be suitable for the treatment of future patients with endocrine tumors, we will plan a further laboratory examination for the relevant participants. Study participants are questioned again about their state of health and their medication and undergo a physical examination as part of planned follow-up checks.
