A fat apron is a sagging excess skin (dermatochalasis) which, in addition to being a cosmetic problem, is often disturbing and can lead to fungal infections in the skin folds. It typically occurs after severe weight loss and pregnancy, but also runs in families.

For planned procedures in the area of the abdominal wall and fat apron, we usually plan the procedure together with colleagues from the plastic surgery department. The individually planned operation usually involves a transverse incision in the lower abdomen corresponding to the extended incision of a caesarean section. After completion of the operation in the abdominal wall area, the skin is tightened. This usually requires the navel to be moved.
