The first meeting of the CCCZ Patient Advisory Board took place in July 2023. Three years later, the Advisory Board has established itself as an integral part of the CCCZ and plays an important role in ensuring that patients’ perspectives are incorporated into care, research, and strategic developments.
The CCCZ Patient Advisory Board brings together representatives from patient organizations, self-help groups, and the CCCZ. His goal is to actively incorporate the experiences, needs, and expectations of patients into the ongoing development of the cancer center. After all, patients are experts both on their own condition and on their daily lives—their knowledge provides a valuable complement to the CCCZ’s medical and scientific expertise.

Since its founding, the Patient Advisory Board has supported and helped shape numerous projects. These include:
- the further development of patient information and communication materials,
- helping to organize the CCCZ Patient Academies and the annual Cancer Survivors Day,
- promoting cooperation with self-help groups and patient organizations,
- providing guidance to CCCZ initiatives in the areas of patient care, research, and patient engagement,
- Incorporating the patient perspective into the CCCZ’s strategic programs.
The Advisory Board has also played a key role in further strengthening collaboration with patient organizations and self-help groups at the CCCZ. Today, the CCCZ collaborates in a structured manner with more than 15 organizations. In 2024, the CCCZ was recognized as a self-help-friendly hospital. In particular, the active involvement of patients through the Patient Advisory Board was recognized.
Patient Engagement
Patient engagement means actively involving patients and their families in the ongoing development of patient care, research, and information resources. At the CCCZ, this is achieved through close and structured collaboration with self-help groups and patient organizations within the CCCZ Patient Advisory Board and through patient events.
Why is a patient advisory board needed?
Modern cancer care involves more than just excellent diagnostics and innovative treatments. Patient-centered care also takes into account the experiences, challenges, and needs of patients and their families. To this end, the advisory board serves as an important bridge between those affected, patient organizations, research, and clinical care. It helps make services more understandable, more relevant, and better aligned with the actual needs of those affected.
“Patients and their families experience the effects of cancer every day. Your experiences help us to consistently improve care, research, and information resources from the perspective of those affected. “The Patient Advisory Board is therefore an important partner for the CCCZ.”
Thank you very much
The CCCZ would like to extend its sincere thanks to all members of the Patient Advisory Board, the participating patient organizations and self-help groups, as well as everyone at the CCCZ for their dedication over the past three years. Their dedication plays a key role in ensuring that the CCCZ not only provides excellent cancer care but also works together with the people for whom it is intended to further develop that care.
We look forward to continuing our collaboration and working on many joint projects in the coming years.
