With the introduction of Accela at the University Hospital Zurich, a new generation of radiotherapy technology is entering the clinic. As one of the first centres worldwide to implement this innovative linear accelerator, the USZ is taking an important step towards the future of highly precise cancer treatment.

Accela combines precision, advanced imaging and exceptional treatment speed. This opens new possibilities for complex treatments, including stereotactic irradiation of multiple targets, while significantly reducing treatment times. Technologies such as Spine-Tracking provide continuous image-guided monitoring during treatment, while adaptive radiotherapy approaches enable treatment to be tailored to the patient’s anatomy of the day.

This session explores the journey from technological innovation to clinical implementation — and ultimately to patient benefit.
