2,000. Birth of the Year 2026 at the Department of Obstetrics

The Department of Obstetrics at the University Hospital of Zurich celebrated a special milestone on Thursday: With the birth of the 2,000th... In 2026, another family was supported on their journey into parenthood.

Nil, a boy, was born at 7:55 a.m., weighed 3,320 grams, and was 54 centimeters long. Both the mother and the child are doing well.

Focus on Individual Needs and Safety

Several thousand children are born at the USZ every year. Behind this is an interprofessional team of midwives, doctors, and nurses who support expectant parents from pregnancy through childbirth and into the postpartum period.

The Department of Obstetrics offers the full range of modern obstetric services. Expectant parents can work with their care team to choose the birth option that’s right for them—from natural childbirth and midwife-assisted childbirth to a scheduled cesarean section or a medically necessary cesarean section. Throughout this process, the family’s individual needs and the safety of the mother and child are always the top priority.

The Department of Obstetrics is delighted to have reached this special milestone and thanks the families for the trust they have placed in us. We sincerely wish Nil and his family a wonderful start to their life together as a family, many unforgettable moments, as well as good health, happiness, and all the best for the future.
