Information for patients on cancer registration

The Federal Council’s “Health 2020” strategy and the new Cancer Registration Act

The number of older people and thus chronic diseases is increasing, current structures are geared towards acute care, there is a lack of transparency and controllability: with the Health2020 strategy, the Federal Council is optimally aligning the healthcare system to these challenges.

The new provisions on cancer registration are also related to this. The Cancer Registration Act (KRG) passed by the Federal Assembly in 2018 stipulates that cancers and precancerous lesions must be registered throughout Switzerland.

Patients are informed verbally by the doctor about the cancer registration and have the right to veto the data collection. It is also possible to obtain information about the registered data from the register.

Compliance with data protection has top priority during registration.
