Transplant immunology laboratory

The transplant immunology laboratory analyzes the tissue compatibility system (HLA system) on behalf of the clinics performing transplants at the USZ. Every person has typical HLA characteristics on their body cells that enable the immune system to distinguish between their own and foreign tissue.

Thanks to the analyses, the immunological compatibility between the donor organ and its recipient can be ensured. In addition, the determination of HLA-specific antibodies allows the immunological risk of a transplant to be better assessed and the immunosuppressive therapy to be adapted accordingly. In addition, clarifications of HLA-associated diseases or drug intolerances are carried out. The detection of predisposing HLA characteristics can now be used as a marker in the differential diagnosis of many diseases.

The transplant immunology laboratory is accredited according to the European standards of the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI).

External physicians and hospitals as well as internal clinics can use the services of the Transplant Immunology Laboratory for the determination of HLA-associated diseases (e.g. HLA-associated diseases). narcolepsy, ankylosing spondylitis, coeliac disease).
