Gynecological and endocrinological counseling for female athletes

We offer gynecological-endocrinological examinations for competitive athletes and ambitious amateur athletes. Our services are aimed at women with hormonal disorders such as irregular or absent menstruation. We analyze how your training affects your hormonal balance and menstrual cycle and develop individual treatment strategies.

Our studies are aimed at women who:

  • Have irregular or absent menstruation
  • Suspect a hormonal imbalance
  • Detect drops in performance or health problems due to intensive training
  • want to optimize your athletic performance and health in the long term

Possible examinations

Our interdisciplinary team comprehensively examines the extent to which your symptoms are related to hormonal changes. These include:

  • Detailed anamnesis: discussion of athletic activity, symptoms, and previous health data
  • Gynecological examination including ultrasound (if desired)
  • Blood analysis to determine hormonal parameters
  • Bone density measurement (if required to assess bone health)
  • Individual treatment strategies to balance hormonal imbalances and maintain athletic performance
  • Referral to specialists in other departments of the USZ, if necessary

Preparation and procedure

No special preparation is required. However, we recommend that you bring relevant documents such as doctor’s letters, laboratory results, cycle calendars or food diaries with you or send them to us in advance by e-mail. After the examinations, we discuss the results together and determine the next steps.
