High-resolution ultrasound of the musculoskeletal system provides additional diagnostic information to the clinical examination and facilitates therapeutic measures. As a non-stressful and comparatively inexpensive examination, this technique is particularly suitable for imaging diagnostics of the joints or soft tissues.
The examinations and interventions are performed or supervised by senior physicians with many years of experience and an FMH title in rheumatology, who are also SGUM and SONAR tutors. Ultrasound is not only a recognized and validated tool in diagnostics, but is also suitable for monitoring therapeutic measures (e.g. decrease of the synovitis score in rheumatoid arthritis under treatment). Ultrasound is very important for targeted puncture or infiltration under visualization.
At the Clinic for Rheumatology, physicians are trained to perform ultrasound examinations. Supervision is provided by senior physicians with many years of experience and an FMH title in rheumatology, who are also SGUM and SONAR tutors. In addition, regular internal practical courses are held for physicians working in the clinic or in a medical practice.

Using ultrasound, joints, tendons and ligaments can be examined for inflammatory or degenerative changes without radiation or pain.
