Research explained simply

Research means pursuing a question in a systematic and structured way, i.e. scientifically.

In clinics, this usually involves the development of drugs, medical products or other therapeutic approaches.

Research is carried out in order to gain knowledge by answering scientific questions. Researchers document the knowledge together with its basis and method. These results must then be published, communicated and applied in practice.

How does research at the USZ work? (in German)

Research takes place in the laboratory, but also in the hospital – in all areas. Every research project must be carried out according to quality standards and approved in advance by the authorities. Risks are also weighed against the benefits.

Additional information, general conditions and protective measures can be found on the website of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) under Research involving humans.
