About the Department for Obstetrics
In our clinic, we care for pregnant and birthing women. As an international specialist center for maternity medicine, the Department of Obstetrics at the University Hospital Zurich offers comprehensive medical care for pregnant women, women in labor and new mothers. The associated medical expertise ensures the greatest possible degree of safety.

Cutting-edge medicine for women and children
As an international center for obstetrics (center of excellence), we offer:
- Maximum safety thanks to top medical expertise and experience (university clinic);
- The Perinatal Center for premature births (in particular babies weighing less than 1,500 g);
- comprehensive competent care thanks to interdisciplinary cooperation within the university hospital.
- Expert care in the case of high-risk births for mothers and children at the Perinatal Center (obstetrics and neonatology);
- Proximity to intensive care unit for newborns;

- Emergency cesareans possible in a matter of minutes.
In addition, we provide individualized care and the highest possible level of self-determination by:
- Support a natural (gentle) birth whenever possible. Use of technology only when medically necessary.
- Accompany women individually and respect the woman’s/couple’s right to make informed choices and share decisions (different birth positions, water birth).
- provide very individual holistic care for women (during pregnancy, during childbirth, in the postpartum period) in a family-oriented setting.
- ensure optimal support or promotion of the mother-child relationship (rooming in).
- We offer postpartum (and prenatal) hospitalization in rooms with a beautiful view over the whole of Zurich.
