Dermatopathology

In our dermatohistopathology laboratory, the entire histologic examination of the skin and its appendages is carried out. The findings are made by certified dermatopathologists with a specialization in dermatopathology.

The following examinations are offered:

Routine histological examination of all inflammatory dermatoses as well as benign and malignant skin tumors
Special immunohistochemical tests
PCR analysis on tissue: Treponema pallidum, Borrelia burgdorferi, HSV, VZV, HPV
Histologically confirmed incision margin control (3D) as part of micrographically controlled surgery (MGC) or according to the “Tübingen tart” method

For complex cases, we offer the option of clinical-pathological correlation. On request, this can take place as part of our lunchtime ward round in the presence of the clinic director and a broad panel of experienced dermatologists and dermatopathologists.

We maintain an interdisciplinary collaboration with the Institute of Pathology USZ.

Diagnostically challenging melanocytic proliferations are discussed weekly in our Melanoma Reference Center (MRZ) with dermatopathologists, pathologists and dermatooncologists.
