Prostate body stereotaxy

High-precision radiotherapy of the prostate is carried out in five sessions with a very high single dose, which is biologically equivalent to several weeks of radiotherapy previously required. The high radiation precision in this situation is ensured by the online detection of electromagnetic markers ("GPS") implanted in the prostate with the highest precision. This implantation takes place before the planning CT.

Procedure

For radiation planning, special MRI sequences are then performed to detect the tumor lesions within the prostate.

Before each irradiation session, a CT scan is taken in the irradiation position by the edge linear accelerator, which allows very precise control of the correct irradiation position. This is followed by irradiation using a special rotation technique, during which the exact position of the prostate can be checked by the implanted markers using an electronic signal and corrected if necessary. This ensures optimum precision and safety during the treatment itself.
