Infertility / male infertility – treatment

If the desire to have children is not fulfilled, this can be very stressful for those affected. In urology, we look for possible causes of infertility in men and try to eliminate them as far as possible. We work closely with our university fertility center.

Couples who remain childless for up to two years despite regular, unprotected sexual intercourse should seek help and medical advice. At the Urology Clinic, our specialists first look for possible causes in men. The following examinations can be carried out:

  • Examination of the external genital organs: We can detect malformations, diseases and changes to the penis or testicles.
  • Palpation of the testicles, epididymis, examination of the spermatic cord
  • Spermiogram: analysis of the ejaculate, assessment of the appearance, number and motility of the sperm, as well as other examinations
  • Hormone examination: e.g. determination of testosterone and thyroid levels
  • If necessary, we can take a tissue sample (biopsy) from the testicles or arrange a genetic test.

Positive change in lifestyle

In any case, we recommend general supportive measures in which each patient can take action themselves. This includes a balanced diet rich in protein and vitamins, reducing excess weight, drinking alcohol only in small quantities, giving up smoking, not doing excessive competitive sport and not going to the sauna too often. Chemicals and ionizing radiation should also be avoided. Unhealthy stress at work is also a possible risk factor.

Further measures

If these measures do not bring any improvement or if no specific cause can be found for the continued lack of a desire to have children, various reproductive techniques can be used. To this end, we work very closely with the Reproductive Endocrinology Clinic. In principle, the couple should be examined if pregnancy does not occur.

We are at your disposal for a uro-andrological examination of the man in order to be able to exhaust all possible treatment options together.
