After graduating in human medicine from the University of Zurich in 1987 and obtaining his doctorate in 1988, Prof. Dr. Thomas M. Kündig obtained the certificate of the “Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates” (ECFMG). With a one-year residency in surgery, he completed the postgraduate course in Experimental Medicine and Biology, followed by postdoctoral studies in Immunology at the Institute of Experimental Immunology, University of Zurich (Prof. Rolf Zinkernagel) and in Molecular Biology at the Department of Medical Biophysics, University of Toronto, Canada (Prof. Tak Mak).
Back in Switzerland, Thomas M. Kündig took up a position as senior assistant at the Dermatology Clinic of the USZ in 1995 and acquired the Venia Legendi for the teaching area of Experimental Immunology in 1998. From 1999 to 2004, he worked as senior physician for dermatology and until 2006 as senior physician for experimental immunotherapy at the USZ. During this time he acquired the specialist title of Dermatology FMH. Since 2006, Thomas M. Kündig has been in charge of the research and laboratory department as well as deputy head of the Dermatological Polyclinic. He took over the management of the polyclinic, as well as the day clinic in 2016. In 2017, he was appointed Associate Professor ad personam of Immunodermatology, and as of August 2019, Full Professor of Dermatology and Venereology, as well as Clinic Director.Interview
