Our senior physicians lead pioneering research across diverse areas of pathology. We offer master’s and doctoral candidates’ access to translational research that bridges laboratory innovation with clinical impact.
Dr. Marco Bühler specializes in hematopathology and molecular pathology. His research focuses on translational hematopathology, implementing time-honored and novel analytical methods to better understand hematological malignancies, particularly regarding diagnosis and classification of lymphoid malignancies. He is co-principal investigator in two large clinical and translational projects at the USZ: POLAR (funded by the LOOP Zurich and the Uniscentia Stiftung) and Z-POC (funded by the Comprehensive Cancer Center Zurich, the LOOP Zurich and the Tumor Profiler Center). Lastly, the group participates in large international multi-institutional studies of lymphomas (e.g. splenic and nodal marginal zone lymphoma studies of the IELSG).
Master’s and doctoral thesis are available for highly motivated and interested candidates.

Dr. Martina Haberecker specializes in lung and molecular pathology.
Her research focuses on identifying and validating diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarkers in thoracic diseases, including both neoplastic and non-neoplastic lung conditions.
She aims to bridge histological and molecular findings with clinical practice to improve cancer diagnostics and deepen the understanding of complex lung injury patterns.
Master’s and doctoral thesis are available for highly motivated and interested candidates.

Prof. Daniela Mihic-Probst is Head Physician at the University Hospital Zurich at the Department of Pathology and Molecular Pathology and head of the Immunohistochemistry Laboratory. For 25 years she engaged in research on dermatopathology and ophthalmic pathology, with a focus on melanoma. Her current work investigates prognostic factors and pathways of melanoma metastasis, applying innovative techniques such as microCT of paraffin blocks, methylation analysis, and next-generation tumor sequencing. And she maintains multiple national and international collaborations.
Master’s and doctoral theses are available for highly motivated and interested candidates.
