Acupuncture during pregnancy

Acupuncture is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine. It has proven to be a valuable healing method for use during pregnancy and childbirth. It should be understood as a complement and enrichment of conventional medicine.

When is acupuncture useful during pregnancy?

  • for pregnancy vomiting and heartburn
  • for water retention (oedema)
  • for sleep disorders
  • for back problems
  • in case of breech presentation
  • for birth preparation

Acupuncture during childbirth

Depending on staff availability, acupuncture is offered during labor for pain relief and labor coordination in the birthing room by midwives.

Treatment duration

The number of treatments can vary from 4 to 10 sessions, depending on the clinical condition. One session lasts about 30 minutes.

Individual treatments by physicians take place on Thursday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Outpatient Obstetrics Department (North 1, Floor B).

Most health insurance companies cover acupuncture by physicians through basic insurance. However, it is recommended to clarify this before treatment.
