Lung Volume Reduction Fellowship (LVRS).

The Department of Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich offers an exciting and educational Fellowship in Lung Volume Reduction Surgery (LVRS).

Four-month Fellowship in Lung Volume Reduction (LVRS).

LVRS has been practiced since the mid-1990s and has achieved great experience, several milestone publications, and attracts thoracic surgeons from all over the world. In the last decade, bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR) emerged and is now also routinely offered.

Requirements for the LVRS Fellowship

  • Completed thoracic surgery training (board certified).
  • German language skills in writing and speaking (at least proficiency level B2)

Start date: November 1, 2022 or later

Through the fellowship, you will have the opportunity to assist and operate LVRS under supervision, as well as participate in clinical decision-making processes such as the emphysema board, clinical rounds, and in consultation. Additionally, participation in BLVR procedures is provided. The large LVRS database in Zurich and the ongoing research on LVR allow participation in various projects.

The multicenter randomized study SINCERE has been conducted at the University Hospital Zurich since September 2020, with Zurich being the leading center. The study compared bilateral LVRS with BLVR with valves.
