Internet (WLAN), media & telephone

Headphones are available in shared rooms. You will receive telephone cards for the cashless telephones. All lounges have TV and WLAN Internet. Please always show consideration for your fellow patients in shared rooms.

WLAN for patients and visitors

We are pleased to be able to provide you with wireless Internet access. To get access to this free service, you need a cell phone. After successful registration, you can use the guest internet on your private notebook, tablet or smartphone.

  1. Connect your device to the “unispital-public” WLAN network.
  2. Open your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome) and enter the address “guest.usz.ch” if required. The welcome page is displayed.
  3. Under Registration for patients and guests, click on “Access data by SMS” to continue with the SMS verification.
  4. Read the terms of use (GTC) and confirm them with a tick. Then enter your mobile phone number and press “Request access code”.
  5. You will shortly receive an SMS with your access code.
  6. Enter the code and then click on “Complete registration”.
  7. After successful login, the main page “www.usz.ch” is displayed.

Access is valid for 30 days after your first login. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that this is a free service. We therefore ask you to seek help from a computer-savvy friend if you have any technical questions. Thank you for your understanding.

Patients without a cell phone can obtain an access card from the porter. An identity card must be presented in order to identify the patient. Porter RAE A opening hours: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. / Porter NORD1 A: around the clock (24h).

  • Connect your device to the “unispital-public” WLAN network.

  • Enter “Guest” as the user name and the corresponding password, see access card.

Log out of the guest internet:

  • After a successful login, you will remain logged in with your device for 30 days, after which you will be automatically logged out.

You have been receiving treatment at the University Hospital Zurich for more than 30 days:

  • Your account will expire after 30 days. You must then register again (see procedure under Instructions).

No network is found:

  • On some notebooks, the wireless function must be activated with a mechanical switch. Or right-click on “Wireless network connections” and select “Deactivate”. Repeat the process and first select “Activate” and then “Establish connection”.

The “Wireless network connections” icon is missing:

  • Your notebook may not have a built-in WLAN function or the required settings may not have been configured. If necessary, ask a computer-savvy friend for assistance.

No network selection appears:

  • If your device has automatically connected to the “open” network “unispital-public”, continue with point 2 in the instructions.

WLAN for students

We are pleased to provide you with wireless internet access (WLAN) in the lecture halls at the USZ. This guest internet is a free service for students, allowing you to connect to your educational institution via VPN using your notebook, tablet or smartphone.

  1. Display the available wireless networks.
  2. Select the network “unispital-edu” and enter the password “Access4Edu”.
  3. As soon as you are connected to the open WLAN unispital-edu, you can start your VPN client or log in via the following URL:

You can now access the Internet via the VPN.
