Fellowship in PET/CT imaging

The fellowship in hybrid PET at Zurich University Hospital has seen more than 200 fellows since 2007. The fellows typically come for a minimum of 4 weeks and have their own workstation in the fellows room, on which they can view and read the daily hybrid PET cases performed at our hospital. This gives the fellows a real life environment which they will find, when reading hybrid PETs in their own service. During this activity, they are supervised by our experienced hybrid PET readers.

The fully structured fellowship program has the following daily schedule:

  • self-study of daily PET/CT cases on personal workstation, including some PET/MR cases
  • review of hybrid PET request forms together with fellows pointing out salient information of patient history
  • daily 45 minute lecture on topics relevant to hybrid PET technical and clinical issues
  • daily case discussion with a staff physician having extensive experience in hybrid PET reading daily Nuclear Medicine and PET read-out with discussion and presentation of most interesting case of the day
  • special tracer days covering F-Choline, F-Fluoride, Ga-DOTATATE

The program takes a maximum of 6-8 fellows in parallel. The aim to train fellows to train themselves to become independent hybrid PET readers. As typically approximately 12 clinical hybrid studies can be done per day in our service, fellows can review approximately 250 cases in a 4 week period under supervision.

Details for qualification to attend this fellowship program are outlined under “program entry requirements for participants” and “general description of certification program”.
