We perform the following corneal transplantation techniques at the Eye Clinic of the University Hospital Zurich:
- Perforating keratoplasty (PKP)
- Lamellar endothelial transplantation (Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty, DSAEK)
- Descemet’s membrane endothelial transplantation (Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty, DMEK)
The procedures mentioned differ in the tissue depth of the cornea in which the patient’s own tissue is replaced by donor tissue (see the schematic representation of corneas in cross-section below with the transplantation area highlighted in gray according to the surgical technique).
