Farewell in hospital

When patients die at the University Hospital, the pastoral care team is there to support their relatives on request. This is independent of the personal faith of the deceased person.

Support around the clock

Pastoral care can be called at any time for support and farewell rituals via the responsible nursing staff. If the deceased is still in the hospital room, a farewell can be said there. The nursing team in the relevant department offers support. If the deceased is already in one of the laying-out rooms, the pastoral care team will be happy to accompany the relatives there as well. In exceptional cases, a simple farewell ceremony can be held in the hospital church.

If there are any uncertainties regarding the interpretation of the living will, clinical ethics can be asked for help.

Funeral home

The University Hospital has its own funeral home. The relatives are accompanied there by the nursing staff or, on request, by the pastoral care team. The staff at the funeral home will provide the next of kin with initial guidance, information and advice on how to proceed. Please note the opening hours for telephone inquiries.

As the new funeral office is difficult to find for those not familiar with the area, we recommend using the Rämistrasse entrance and asking at reception for the exact route.
