Hormone therapy for gender dysphoria

We treat people with gender dysphoria in close interdisciplinary cooperation with the clinics for consultant psychiatry and psychosomatics, plastic surgery, ear, nose, throat and facial surgery, gynecology and dermatology.

Treatment at the Reproductive Endocrinology Clinic includes clarification of the hormonal situation as well as the adjustment and monitoring of sex reassignment hormone therapy before and after an adjustment operation. As a rule, hormone treatment is only carried out after referral by a recognized psychological/psychiatric specialist.

Treatment options

Hormone therapy can be customized to promote the desired sexual characteristics and reduce undesirable characteristics. Common treatment options include

  • Estrogen therapy: To promote female physical characteristics such as breast development and softer skin.
  • Testosterone blockers: To suppress male characteristics such as body hair growth or erections
  • Testosterone therapy: To promote male characteristics such as voice deepening, muscle growth and beard growth.

Treatment is carried out under close medical supervision to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the therapy. Psychological and medical support services are also available to provide the best possible support during the transition process.

Before hormone therapy, a fertility preservation measure can be carried out on request (freezing of sperm or eggs).

In addition to hormone therapy, we also offer gynecological care for people with gender dysphoria, such as gynecological check-ups and advice on contraception.
