Information about the Speaker

 

Dr. Aaron Nauth, MD, is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Trauma Team Leader at St. Michael’s Hospital, and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. His clinical interests include orthopaedic trauma, knee and shoulder arthroscopy,
and upper extremity surgery. Dr. Nauth is an Associate Scientist at the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science at St. Michael’s, and is the Principal Investigator of an active basic science laboratory focused on investigating different avenues
for promoting fracture healing including stem cell therapies, infection treatment and the induced membrane technique. Dr. Nauth also has a strong interest in clinical research with a particular focus on randomized clinical trials in orthopaedic trauma and sports medicine. Dr. Nauth holds the St. Michael’s and University of Toronto Chair in Fracture Care Research. During Dr. Nauth’s tenure as Chair, he has developed and grown both the basic science and clinical science trauma research programs at St. Michael’s Hospital and is considered one of the preeminent leaders in Canada with regards to fracture care research. Dr. Nauth has received over 50 peer-reviewed grants, has over 100 peer-reviewed publications, and has written more than 25 book chapters.Dr. Nauth is also a highly active member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and currently serves as the Chair of the Basic Science Division of that organization. In addition, Dr. Nauth is one of the team physicians for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball.

Further Information about Harald Tscherne

Professor Harald Tscherne underwent his surgical training in Graz, Austria and with Professor Maurice Edmond Müller in St. Gallen. He was drafted to Hannover Medical School in Germany to become the first Chairman of the then new surgical subspecialty named «Unfallchirurgie». On this basis, he developed a complex system of trauma care and one of the largest and most influential Trauma Centers in Europe. His recommendation for the surgical phases after trauma and his scoring system for soft tissue injuries continue to represent the standard of care today. Most importantly, the work set the stage for modern trauma care, where various experts share their knowledge in treating the severely injured patient.
